,
Page 6 Special Town meeting . Aug. 4/71
Article 7 ctd:
the approximately $16,000 already spent and we still have an in® j
complete restoration. . . .this is no good. It does not make him I
feel good, he stated, to think of this money wasted. . . . .$28,000
matching funds from the Federal government which all goes on his
income tax. We are already in the mole for $16,000, he said, as
well as being on the way to going in the hole for $22,000 with still
no assurance we will get what we want.
Mrs. Emma Mills : Has an anyone thing written?
y y
Moderator: The Accountant has just said a contract has been signed,
sealed, and delivered.
Mrs. Mills : To o?
Moderator: To the Town
Frank Hicks : To the best of my knowledge, all contracts and such
documents are in the hands of the Town Accountant.
F. Shea, Town Accountant : That is correct.
Mrs. Aiken here inquired if all parties concerned didn't know
what was required before agreements were entered into and contracts
made . She brought up the point about termite eaten beams having to
be removed, etc. She says these things should be found out and
known whether something was worth while before we , start to spend
money - which otherwise might be just money thrown away.
From the Floor: I don't suite understand these matching funds. Do
we get back $28,000 or just half of that?
Answers $28,000. (From the moderator)
Floor: Can it be done for $28,000? At the rate we are going,
it might be $100,000.
Amelia miller: It is d.J_fficult to hear what is being said.
Moderator: This mike apparently isn't working. You just hear
my voice ® not the mike .
Floor: Well if the Government gives $28 ,000 ® does that mean
we will have $56,000 in all?
Garland: Mr. Moderator, you are not entirely correct. If the
Town spends $28 ,000, the Federal Government will reimburse $28 , 000.
But that money goes back into the General Treasury. If the Town
spends $10,000 ® the Federal Government will re-imburse $10,000
