Page 6
,1
Annual Town Meeting March 6, 1972
Article 6 Continued:
Moderator : The figures I will read for this article will. represent I
those recommended by the Finance Co mxi_tt.ee . If anyone has n objection
to the figure as read - please say "hold and say it loudly enough
so I can hear it up here . Wee will, go through the entire budget, and
then go back and take up the "holds" one by one. Moderator then
proceeded to read the budget figures .
Ist Hold : Item 2`5 Question was raised about updating maps and
expenses . Mr. Garland explained that the figure (recoende ) of
4, 566 included coverage for both Expense and. updating of maps - they
g=yere lumped together.
2nd Hold: Item 72. PopPonesset Bay Waterways
Penway: I know the Committee has held many meetings , and monies
lave been e pended. No recommended figure has been entered for
expenses. Would $200.00 do it? (inquires of Pohdin, Chairman)
Pohdin: We have just held an emergency meeting - an executive
session at the request of the Corps of Engineers, at which, among
others, were the Corps of Engineers, the .Board of Selectmen,
Senator Aylmer; Representative .Bowes the. State Waterways Com-
mission, Natural. Resources; the Aud bon Society; and Selectmen
from the Town of Barnstable; Pep® Congressman Keith; both Toy
Waterways Conmaittees. This report will be wade public in
approximately 6 weeks. This wals called at the request of the Corps
of Engineers and held as a meeting which could not be publicized.
I personally took case of the expenses. The Finance Committee
found it convenient not to have it justified and this was perfectly
all right. You will all know how we stand in about 6 weeks, We
cannot discuss it now at the request of the Corps of Engineers
Garland: In 1971 we voted $500.00. They spent $17 . 61 in 1971,
This year they ask for $400.00 with no breakdown except that the
Corps of Engineers will probably hold a meeting and the taxpayers
will have to be notified. I asked Mr. Rohdin to meet with our
Committee and he declined®
I
