To see if the Town will vote to ban Personal Watercraft operation on the waters of John's <br /> Pond, Santuit Pond, and the Mashpee Portions of Ashumet Pond, by adopting the <br /> following changes to Chapter § 170-6 of the Mashpee Code, or take any other action <br /> relating thereto. <br /> Submitted by the Waterways Commission <br /> 1) By inserting the underlined text in Paragraph A and deleting the words "the freshnet <br /> ponds" so it reads as follows: <br /> a. All personal watercraft operation is subject to the applicable provisions of the <br /> General Laws of the commonwealth, as amended, and to the further restriction <br /> that no motor or propelled surfboard or other personal watercraft operation is <br /> allowed in Mashpee in or on Mashpee-Wakeby Pond before the hour of 10:00 a.m. <br /> and after the hour of 7:00 p.m. <br /> 2) By revising paragraph B so it reads as follows: <br /> a. Personal Watercraft operation is permitted only on Mashpee-Wakeby Pond and the <br /> tidal waters of Popponesset Bay, Nantucket Sound, and Waquoit Bay subject to <br /> the same restrictions for watercraft above. <br /> 3) By adding the following subparagraph to paragraph B, prohibited activities: <br /> f) Operation of personal watercraft on the waters of John's Pond, Santuit Pond, <br /> and the Mashpee portion of Ashumet Pond <br /> Submitted by the Harbormaster <br /> and the Waterways Commission <br /> Explanation: The use of personal watercraft on the freshwater ponds of Mashpee has <br /> increased dramatically over the last few years. Because of the high-speed capabilities of <br /> these machines and the large number of them competing with other craft for the use of the <br /> waterways, a public hazard exists. This action is being proposed to prevent possible <br /> serious injury or death. Use of personal watercraft on salt water and Mashpee-Wakeby <br /> Pond is permitted, subject to the applicable laws, bylaws and regulations. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Taylor. <br /> Motion: I move Article 35 be indefinitely postponed. <br /> Motion to indefinitely postpone passes at 7:59 p.m. <br /> ARTICLE 36 <br /> To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Selectmen, pursuant to General <br /> Laws Chapter 40, Section 4A, or otherwise, to execute an Intermunicipal Agreement with <br /> a term of up to five years with the Town of Bourne for the disposal of <br />
