It was noted that there <br /> are some thirty towns in the Commonwealth with Deputies <br /> The Chief replied that there are a dozen of comparable size <br /> that did have them. It was questioned, "any on the Cape"? The <br /> Chief answered "yes" , among them were Yarmouth, Edgartown, and <br /> Barnstable. <br /> Peter Lawrence stated that evidently this was a position <br /> that was agreed upon with the Personnel Board that walked out <br /> en rasse. The Chief stated that this was not so. That this had <br /> been asked for in 1972. Chief Bingham then stated that he had® <br /> had a letter in 1972 sent to both the Personnel Board and <br /> the Board of Selectmen and that this position was then approved. <br /> omeyer jumped to his feet again strongly objected. <br /> e stated that in his opinion this was a new position and should <br /> have been approved by the town. He wend on to say that in his <br /> opinion we have too many chiefs and not. enough Indians in Mashpee. <br /> And he thought it was about time the Town got wise to itself and <br /> stopped things that would make the taxes climb higher.
