Page . Annual Town Meeting ® Mashpee Monday March 5, 1973
t
Article 23 Continued: O'Connell speaking:
and I do not see this as a problem. It .s in the works that the
State is interested in regionalization waste disposal. In order '
to reg' aline waste disposal , trucks would have to be going by
here, many of them.. This would be many trucks rolling through
Mashpee and we would not have received one benefit from them.
But if we have this set up we would be unique in that our small
regionalization would solve the problem of trash disposal for
Mashpee and our immediate neighboring towns and there wouldn't
e all that much travel over Mashpee Roads.
Lehmann: We could make a disposal plant in proximity through
a railroad track and send out the trash this way.
K.D.O'Connell: The railroad company in this area is in the
process of selling out their tracks.
question raised® Has AENCO approached any other Towns in the
area before coming to Mashpee?
K.D.O'Connell : This has not occurred and they investigated
and ch e Mashpee because of the number of people per square Haile.
e are not that densely populated. The other Towns would have to
pay for this service and Mashpee would get this service free .
Barnstable would have to pay. Another consideration as to why
Mashpee was choosers was they found the water table situation
suitable here.
Anna Hav rest: Is this going to be an asset to the Town?
We have had so many proposals, from so many people claiming that
things were going to be an asset to the Town, and they did not
turn out tl-,.a t way.
r. Griffin: According to the brochures, this would take a
hundred acres. Do we have a hftdred acres in the area where this
plant would probably 8o, near the dump?
K.D.O'Connell: No, we have 65 acres there . However, we would
come before the people for authorization to purchase the additional
35 acres needed. We might negotiate , if we are able to, some kind
of land swap. Possibly AENCO could purchase the extra land it needs.
Mr. O'Connell replied to another question from Mr. Griffing
saying that the land under consideration for this purpose was the
land in the area of the present dump, which consisted of some
55 acres.
