Annual Town Meeting March 6, 1973 f
r
Article 31 Continued:
From the Floor: What is the life expectency of the equip-
ment you want?
Green: A normal contractor using such equipment could expect
it to last about three years , but with shelter he could expect
approximately ten years of use .
Garland: I see an item for $240. 36 for equipment here . I
assume on this basis and if this is correct your Basins were
not cleaned according to prices you quoted us formally for
cleaning Basins .
Green: The money spent to clean Catch-basins last year was
taken out of Chapter 497 .
Why not take it out each year?
Green. It can be done this year, but you are depriving
necessary maintenance on the streets .
Lawrence : Could you not put this attachment on the Dump
Truck you already have?
Green: Yes , it is possible .
Moderator: You have a choice, to raise and approjnciate,
or take from available funds .
Green: The motion was to raise and appropriate . A second
was heard. A voice vote was taken but the vote was in dispute.
A hand vote was then called for which resulted in 54 for, and
69 opposed. The motion did not carry.
Nellie Coombs : Everything the Finance Committee is asking
for is either for raise and appropriate . Don't we have any
- r
available funds?
Hicks : We have $219,000.00 of free cash. I don't know how
much we will have left after all is committed.
Garland: This is the first time this "Board" has heard
about free cash.
At this point a request was made that Article 31 be recon-
sidered. A motion was made and seconded that Article 31 be
reconsidered at this time .
Green: I make a motion that this be taken from available
funds rather then to raise and appropriate.
A hand count was called for. 55 were for, 75 opposed.
The motion did not carry.
