Page 9 . Annual Town Meeting _ Tuesday March 6, 1973
Article 32:
ART. 32. To see if the Town will vote
to raise and appropriate or take from
available funds the s ni of u1,000 and
to transfer the sum of $2.000 from the
Road Machinery Account for the pur-
pose of purchasing a Power Wagon
Carryall or take any other action
thereon. Submitted by Highway De-
partment.
NOT RECOMM> NIDED-
Motion was made and seconded that the Article be accepted
to take from available funds .
Green: Lad ,es and Gentlemen, I brought this up because I
have been watching the way the work is being done. You probably
have also noticed. When I go out on a project I have to carry
three vehicles to put three men to work on a project. Most all
the work calls for a travel of five miles of further with three
vehicles to go on one job. The vehicle is brought down at eight
or eight-thirty® And then it must sit there, some of them in-
active all day® It seems ridiculous sitting around on the road-
side and not being.,-fuse . I could sometimes use that vehicle
up town for many other projects other then simple transportation®
I ask for a six passenger Carry-all to take the place of three
trucks ® If you are worried about taxes such a saving will help
in some small way to cut the taxes . It would certainly help
keep the gas cost down® If you wish to save some tax dollars
you will vote for this vehicle . But this is up to you.
Ehrisman: I would like to ask you a question. Why can't
you take the six men in one truck?
Green: These trucks have bucket seats . The gear shifts
are so located that you have to sit one way, a man on the gear
shift. [
Mr. Green was here interrupted by Mr. Garland, who said,
"May I ask if you intend to trade in your pick-up or keep your
present pick-up'.'?
Green: I intend to keep it. I am what they call a Highway
Surveyor. I am expected to travel all over-all the Highways of
the Town and rake an inspection daily. Otherwise, if the Town
perfers to send me by my Continental, which uses five miles
to the gallon and rides more comfortably, they may.
