MASHPEE INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY COMMITTEE <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> February 9, 2021 <br /> Virtual/Remote Meeting <br /> Public Call in Number(646) 558 8656 <br /> Present: Chairwoman J.Marie Stevenson, JoAnn Nadeau ,Gail Wilson, SueWilson, Mohamad Faid,Dan <br /> Kupferman, Patricia DeBoer,Non voting: William Baker, Cheyenne Hendricks, Katie Hennessey, Kim <br /> Landry. <br /> Absent: Richard Klein, Winnie Johnson-Graham, John Cotton <br /> CALL TO ORDER: The remote meeting was opened by Chairwoman Stevenson at 10:03 A.M with a <br /> quorum. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES:Approval of January minutes was postponed until the March meeting as <br /> not every member received a copy. One change was made at the request of Gail Wilson. A revised <br /> copy will be sent to all members. <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: None at this time. <br /> COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE:A letter of thanks was emailed to Jen Clifford in <br /> both email and snail mail form. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT:None at this time. <br /> MEMBER UPDATES: <br /> 1. Schools/Human Rights Club: (a)Welcome project: Cheyenne has obtained a list of new <br /> students and will remove data on their previous school placement in the interest of privacy.A <br /> team of juniors will be assembled by Samantha Morry who will make initial contacts. A text or <br /> letter will be sent to each new student via the school email program.A zoom meeting will also <br /> be considered. Guidelines will be developed for the"welcome"team on how to initiate a <br /> conversation and what to offer eg. List of clubs,help with classwork etc They will be asked to <br /> report back on their contacts. Welcoming team will not necessarily be members of the Human <br /> Rights Club but could use this activity as part of their community service requirement. Ms <br /> DeBoer noted that pre pandemic new students were welcomed at a breakfast at the start of the <br /> year.Assuming this practice can be reinstated in September this new welcome program will <br /> enhance the process. (Hence the use of junior this year who can continue the program) (b) Six <br /> members of the Human Rights Club along with the chair, and advisor, Ms Reynolds participated <br /> in a Zoom program from the Provincetown School's Human Rights Club. The club continues <br /> to work on their podcast on Homelessness and a backpack program. A$1000 dollar donation <br /> was made to the backpack project by the New Seabury Women's Club. The club is seeking a <br /> professional in the mental health field experienced with adolescents. Gail Wilson and .Ms. <br /> DeBoer both suggested as this is a school based program the club can access their own dynamic <br /> school counselors. The club continues to develop its Instagram account with posts relative to <br /> Black History Month and Women's History month upcoming. <br /> 2. Library: Gail Wilson reported that Library director, Kathy Mahoney, is excited to work on <br /> diversity issues. The library website and monthly column in the Mashpee Enterprise contains a <br /> wealth of information to the public. On February 24,the library is offering a PBS documentary <br /> on Race Amity with additional discussion. They also offer a"blind date"with a book new to <br />
