Mashpee Inclusion and Diversity Committee <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> January 12, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. <br /> Virtual/Remote Meeting <br /> Public Call in Number(646 ) 558 8656 <br /> Present: Chairwoman J.Marie Stevenson,Winnie Johnson-Graham, JoAnn Nadeau,Gail Wilson,Susan <br /> Wilson, Mohamad Fand,Dan Kupferman, William Baker (non-voting) Cheyenne Hendricks (non- <br /> Voting)Katie Hennessey (non-voting) (Ms DeBoer present after 10:30) <br /> Also Present: Kim Landry <br /> Absent: Selectman John Cotton, Richard Klein <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> The remote meeting was opened by Chairwoman Stevenson at 10:03 a.m. with a quorum. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES : March 10, 2020 and December 8, 2020. <br /> There were no changes suggested to the minutes. <br /> MOTION: Ms. Johnson-Graham made a motion to accept the March minutes. Ms. Sue Wilson <br /> seconded the motion.All voted to accept the March minutes with the exception of Mr. Kupeiman who <br /> was not a member in March and Ms. DeBoer who was not present for the vote. <br /> MOTION: Ms. Johnson-Graham made a motion to accept the December minutes. Mr. Kupfeiman <br /> seconded the motion.All voted to accept the minutes with the exception of Ms.Nadeau who had not <br /> been present in December and Ms. DeBoer who was not present for the vote. <br /> OPENING COMMENTS: Chairwoman Stevenson addressed the recent election and the January 6 <br /> incidents at the at the US Capitol. We should be reminded that we have even more of a purpose at the <br /> local level to encourage citizens to respect and talk to each other. We can continue to find the good and <br /> praise it. We can also celebrate the diversity represented in the new leadership,the Cabinet ,the <br /> Senate, and the House of Representatives fiom both political parties. We must stay positive,dedicated <br /> to our community. <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: None at this time <br /> COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE: The Chair reported that she had written a character <br /> reference for Mr. Wayne Lobo, a resident of Mashpee, who has been working tirelessly to establish a <br /> Cape Verdean museum and cultural center. The reference was requested by the Town of Falmouth as <br /> they consider an approval of a site within its jurisdiction. We support his efforts as they meet our <br /> inclusion and diversity goals and Mashpee citizens will benefit. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: None at this time. <br /> MEMBER UPDATES: <br /> 1. Schools/Human Rights Club: (a) The chair praised the Mashpee Schools for their celebration of <br /> Kindness and the postings on FaceBook with a montage of young children. She shared these images <br /> with a number of home exchangers from different countries to illustrate a message of hope from our <br /> community .to counteract the negative images they are receiving overseas. (b)The Human Rights Club <br /> has developed an Instagram account depicting inspirational quotes with visuals and is developing <br />
