MASHPEE INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY COMMITTEE <br /> MEETING MINUTES <br /> March 9, 2021 <br /> Virtual Remote Meeting <br /> Public Call-in Number(646) 558 8656 <br /> Present; Chairwoman J.Marie Stevenson,Mohamad Fand, Gail Wilson, JoAnn Nadeau, Richard Klein, <br /> Sus Wilson, Dan Kupferman,Patricia DeBoer, Winnie Johnson-Graham Non-Voting: William Baker, <br /> Cheyenne Hendricks,Kim Landry, <br /> Absent: Katie Hennessey, John Cotton <br /> CALL TO ORDER: The remote meeting was called to order by Chairwoman J.Marie Stevenson at <br /> 10:03 A.M. with a quorum. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES: A motion was made by Sue Wilson and seconded by Mohamad Fand to <br /> approve the minutes for January 12 and February 9.All voted to approve. <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: None at this time. <br /> COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE:None to report. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENTS: None at this time. <br /> MEMBER UPDATES: <br /> 1. Tribal: Winnie Johnson-Graham is running for the position of Vice Chairwoman of the Tribal <br /> Council. Winnie described the Tribal Council's make-up and its function. Legal issues are <br /> being addressed. The Land trust has been reaffirmed. Deborah Haaland has been appointed to <br /> head the Department of the Interior; the first time an Indigenous person has been appointed to <br /> this position. Locally, two members of the tribe are running for office: Brian Weeden,for <br /> School Board and Jesse Baird for the Select Board. The Chair referred to the book How to Be <br /> an Anti-Racist, which argues for the importance of electing persons from different cultures who <br /> can support changes in policies that have been discriminatory. <br /> 2. Schools/Human Rights Club: <br /> a) The Chair commended Willie on his article in the Mashpee Enterprise describing the effect <br /> of the pandemic on school life. <br /> b) Cheyenne was also congratulated for her selection as a finalist for the Boys and Girl's Club <br /> Youth of the Year. She earned a scholarship funded by the Southport Men's Club, an <br /> example of community support. <br /> c) The Cape Cod Women's Coalition has joined other organizations in the state to promote a <br /> Proclamation in support of the 401h anniversary of Women's History Month. The Chair <br /> contacted Ms. Reynolds who teaches Women's Issues at the high school. She has arranged <br /> for a girl and a boy to attend the Board of Selectmen Zoom meeting to read the <br /> Proclamation and request approval. The Chair asked for a motion to support the <br /> Proclamation.A motion was made by Dan Kupferman, seconded by Winnie Johnson- <br /> Graham, and approved unanimously. When the Chair commented on the significance of a <br /> young man presenting,Willie said he is not surprised because this is representative of his <br /> generation. <br /> d) Human Rights Club: The Chair attended the club meetings and asked members to write why <br /> they are in the club. Their comments will be cited in Mr. Kupferman's next Enterprise <br />
