YG K cal A`c,(r; toad.-ko' 1-!{1
1lashp r, Alassachusctts 02649
Minutes of Meeting of
Design Review Committee
Tuesday, March 16, 2021
Mashpee Town Hall Waquoit Meeting Room
Design Review Committee Members Present: Dave Morris, Jonathan
Furbush, Joe Callahan, and Miles Peters.
Dave called the meeting to order at 8:43 am as a virtual/remote meeting.
Project Address: 735 Falmouth Road
Business Name: The Black Dog
Sign Company Matthew Anderson with Kiwi Signs Co.
Request: 37.87 sq. ft. freestanding fabricated steel black dog sign.
Matt represented the applicants for a free standing sign that will be located at the
Black Dog Headquarters Building. The sign will be a steel structure bolted to a
concrete footing. The legs on the interior will be made of 3" square steel tube, and
the upper part will be made of 1" steel tube. The whole sign will be cladded with steel
sheeting, and will be painted and bolted to the footings. It will be treated so it will not
rust. The interior supports will not rust and will be treated with primer and paint. There
will be no wording.
Jonathan asked what the setback of the sign was from the street. Matt said it was
30 ft. from the street.
Miles asked for the height and width was. Miles explained that the dimensions were
not clear on the diagram, and not as a singular component separated out from the
sign. Jonathan said it should be the tallest point and the widest point. Most signs
have lettering and descriptions on a sign that size. It's quite a large sign. Miles also
had concerns with that the tail end of the sign would be dangerous. If the size is
reduced to half, he may approve it,
Matt said that if the measurement was from the widest point to widest point, to lowest
point to tallest point, the dog would only be 4 ft. tall. It will not be seen from the street.
The proposed sign is 8 ft. tall, and the tail is 10" wide. He said he may apply for a
Variance or a wall sign on the building. There will be a garden bed around the base
of the sign which has not been proposed.
Jonathan read the sign bylaws for the applicant.
Matt said that he will consult with his client, and will return at a later date.
I
