3
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
April 26, 2021
Public Hearing: Change of Speed Limit on Monomoscoy Road: Town Manager Rodney Collins:
The Board of Selectmen opened the Public Hearing on the proposed change of the speed limit on
Monomoscoy Road from 30 mph to 25 mph. The Hearing notice was read aloud into the record in accord
with posting procedures.
Timothy Martin was present on behalf of the Monomoscoy Island Improvement Association to review the
proposed change with members of the Board of Selectmen. It is requested the two speed limit signs currently
on the island be replaced with 25 mph signage for the safety of all pedestrians on the Island. The road is
narrow without sidewalks and it is further congested with increased seasonal traffic and oversized vehicles.
The association has purchased the commercial grade signage to comply with State standards.
Town Manager Rodney C. Under MA General Laws it is permissible for the Board of Selectmen
to vote to set traffic control. There has been a lot of comment from the residents in support of this proposal
with no opposition. The Chief of Police and Director of Public Works are supportive of the proposed change
of speed limit. It was also affirmed the signage provided and delivered by the association fully conforms to
speed limit signage specifications.
Selectman Carol A. Sherman disclosed she resides on Monomoscoy Island off of the main causeway, and
acknowledged the need for the speed reduction as proposed and enforcement thereof Emails in support of
this project are on file in the Office of the Town Manager/Board of Selectmen.
