Minutes Mashpee Waterways Commission <br /> Mashpee Town Hall <br /> 16 Great Neck Road North <br /> Mashpee,MA 02649 <br /> Date:6/08/2021 <br /> Chairman Ken Bates convened the meeting at 9:03am in the Waquoit Meeting Room <br /> Attendees: Ken Bates, Don MacDonald,Gregg Fraser,Steve Mone,Dick Noonan. <br /> Also present:Ashely Fisher,Jeff Smith,Catherine Laurent <br /> Absent:Tim Leedham,Al Wickel <br /> Minutes: <br /> The following minutes were approved:the regular session of Tuesday January 12,2021 <br /> Motion to approve made by Don MacDonald and seconded by Gregg Fraser. Unanimously <br /> approved by all those present. <br /> Appointments&Information Sessions: <br /> The floor was given to Catherine Laurent who updated us on the state of the Ockway Bay <br /> Ramp Replacement project.She stated that the DPW plans to ask for approval for the funds at <br /> the October Town Meeting. But in order to keep the project progressing on time she needs to <br /> complete the engineering this summer.She requested that the MWC provide the required <br /> $8000 for this phase.After discussion a motion was made by Gregg Fraser that the MWC <br /> provide funds from their engineering and maintenance budget for this phase.The motion was <br /> seconded by Don MacDonald and unanimously approved by all present.(Note: Ken Bates <br /> recused himself from the vote as he has a family member who is doing business with the <br /> engineering firm who will do the work.) <br /> Communications&Correspondence: <br /> The MWC was in receipt of 3 permit applications for dock work at:46 Little Neck Lane, 78 <br /> Popponesset Lane and 100 Lakewood Drive.Jeff Smith reported that he has reviewed and <br /> responded to each application including conversations with property owners. None of the <br /> projects presents a hazard to navigation. <br /> Old Business: <br /> Harbormaster Report: <br /> Jeff reported that everything is progressing well.All buoys are installed with lights as <br /> appropriate and locations updated.The buoys mark the best water available and all the <br /> channels look good. Buoys are also in for all our fresh water ponds.Jeff also reported that the <br /> Office is at full headcount,new people are being trained and all operations are in good shape <br /> for the season. <br /> DNR Director/Shellfish Constable Report: <br /> Ashley reports that the Shellfish Constable has been removing excess gear in the Upper <br /> Mashpee River.Ashley also reported that because the Department anticipated 2 open <br /> personnel spots this season,the Department cut back on the number of quahog seeds ordered <br /> for planting from 5 million to 3 million.Also noted was that the Department will start another <br /> family farming area for oysters in the Upper Great River. It should be ready for the November <br /> season. <br />
