Mashpee Economic Development Industrial Corporation (EDIC)
Minutes — July 30, 2019
6:00 PM
Popponesset Meeting Room
Mashpee Town Hall
Present: Denise Dutson, Pamela McCarthy, Patrice Pimental, Robyn Simmons, Glenn
Thompson
Absent: Carol Sherman, Judy Daigneault (recording secretary)
1. Call Meeting to Order
Denise Duston opened the meeting at 6.05 p.m.
2. Approval of the minutes
Pamela McCarthy moved the committee approve the June 25, 2019 minutes. It was seconded
by Robyn and approved.
3. Treasurer's report
The EDIC has total assets of$381,671.69, with $50,045 in the CD, $27,804 in checking, and
$303,822 in a money market account.
4. Old Business
The committee discussed Open Counter and how the EDIC is paying $5,000 for the second
year of the program. Patrice Pimental asked how many businesses knew about this and used
it? Ideas for outreach included using Chamber events to raise awareness, work contacts, and
a flyer or brochure. In addition, the committee agreed to ask Evan to come and present on how
to use Open Counter so members could talk about it with some knowledge.
Denise Duston recapped the last meeting and the Planning Board's concerns about the EDIC's
mission. As part of that conversation, she talked about the last all board meeting for the town
and how the parcel of land originally re-zoned for a four-story building (in hopes a hotel would
come to Mashpee) could be used for apartments. However, at the all-board meeting, a request
for interest or request for proposals had been floated, where developers could give their ideas
on what they would do with that parcel. No one on the EDIC could remember if anyone or any
board was going to take ownership of that.
Glenn will ask Evan who handles the RFI's/RFP's. Pamela also suggested the EDIC reach out
to the planning board and work with them on it.
