Call Meeting to Order
Carol Sherman opened the meeting at 6:35 p.m.
2. Workforce Housing and Affordable Housing
Carol Sherman gave the background: For the past 9 years the EDIC has been talking
about the property on 108 Commercial Street. Originally it was th ou gh t a hotel/motel
would be a good fit, most hotels/motels would prefer to be on the water. The EDIC has
been talking about workforce housing; 1 and 2 bedroom apartments that are affordable
and th ou gh t it was a good idea to work with the Affordable Housing Committee to talk
about mixed use and workforce housing on that site.
Evan Lehrer said that the site was acquired by the town some time ago. Per the
assessor's records, it's about 6.5 acres. The goal is to create a proposal for workforce,
affordable housing, and mixed use. The area is not located in a nitrogen-sensitive area.
Carol Sherman said the EDIC previously decided it would pay for a feasibility study on
this property (which, according to Evan, would likely cost around $30,000).
Allan Isbitz said that Mashpee Commons have officially created 32 affordable units.
Th ey h ave 20 more to do, they are committed to building these though they don't have a
timeline. The state recognizes all 52 units (built and notyet built)as affordable housing.
Melinda Baker said that we should get another perspective to make sure we're all on
the same page
