 " vrrrrrr fa ,
 _Mashyee -TnClLfSlOn and-Diversity Committee
f1,7 ii;iianGTF
16 Great Necfi Road North
_Alash_pee, Massachusetts 02649
Mr. Kupferman would liketo write a column on Critical Race Theory.
Ms. Stevenson forgot to write Mr. Kupferman in updates about his last article. She will return
to this topic.
Baha'is sent information about Project Empathy, a performance based project. People are
paired up and tell one anothertheir true personal stories. They pair eight people with different
backgrounds to share one another's stories through performance and dance.Something else
we can look at. The link: Green acres.org
Ms. Nadeau mentioned they had a public showing in Elliot, Maine at The Seacoast Theatre,
you could also sign upto a livezoom. It was a fewweeks ago, and she got a ticket. It was
wonderful, they had a twist on what Mash pee did, two people over a period of time, then each
told the other persons story. It was interesting to see how that developed. There was a
director who was coaching them, it was like a workshop. He talked at the end of the process.
He would lead the conversation and guide how to listen. There was song and dance that was
included.A musician played the keyboard and a dancer performed a dance while others
spoke. The workshop was the couples getting to know one another. At the end they took
questions. The most important thing to take away was have conversation.A theatre group
would take this on. Chairwoman mentioned CotuitCenterforthe Arts.
Another invitation she received,as she mentioned last meeting, BystanderTraining from
Barnstable. They had fu nding forother towns to participate. If you go through this training you
can give a presentation at libraries etc. She will get back to the group if Mashpee Library will
host her, she spoke to Human Rights Club if theywantto have it in the classrooms, and she
will do that as well. You choose whatthe right action will be if you see someone being bullied.
A key item learned was not to focus on the harasser, you really need to focus on the victim.
League of Women Voters has a subcommittee for DEI. It has a book club approach, she is
already in a book club in FL that already covered this book, Difficult Conversations with a
Black Man. This is one of the less intense books to start with, she will most likely be leading
one of those groups.
MEMBER UPDATES
A good month for Inclusion and Diversity - Mr. Kupferman's Article, July 23rd
He will send it out today via e-mail. Chairwoman is expressing having mixed feelings about
himwriting an article on Critical Race Theory. Is that smart for our community? By bringing
that up do we entice the negative thinkers? It hasn't been an issue here.
3
