-2- <br /> Witches Place (located in south Mashpee on Great Neck Road South and River Road) <br /> Bill McKay has been in touch with Rosemary to discuss that piece of property. In 1842 there were 60 <br /> acres owned by the Esau family, and the deed mentioned the Witches Place. Mary Keeter, an herbalist, <br /> lived there. There was a rock about 2'x2' naming her, but it has been moved by a utility company. <br /> Preservation Awards <br /> 2019 Award will be presented to the Native Land Conservancy in recognition of their receiving the <br /> donation of the three islands presently named —Cleveland, Jefferson, and Keith Islands that are located <br /> in the Mashpee-Wakeby Pond. <br /> Indigenous Peoples' Day—2021 <br /> Brian Weeden made a Motion to celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day on Monday, October 11t", 2021, at <br /> The Archives. The Motion was seconded by Richard, and voted unanimously. There will be a <br /> presentation of the 2019 Preservation Award at the gazebo in the Mashpee Community Park, followed by <br /> the Open House in the Archives. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> The Mashpee Historical Commission members present, as well as Joan who phoned in, congratulated <br /> Brian Weeden on his recent election to Chairman of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. We all wish him <br /> success as he undertakes his new job and responsibilities. <br /> Richard would like to see more funding for the Mashpee One-room Schoolhouse. He wants to purchase <br /> an Open flag and have a sign made up to announce to Mashpee residents and summer visitors that the <br /> schoolhouse is once again open for tours on Mondays during July and August. We would like to set up a <br /> meeting of the MOSH Preservation Council to discuss budget and other relevant matters. <br /> Richard announced that he has been working on getting approval for the completion of the woodshed that <br /> would be attached at the rear of the schoolhouse. Brian Weeden is willing to work with Mashpee High <br /> School to design the shed, and Brian Hyde is willing to contact the Superintendent at the Upper Cape <br /> Tech School to construct the shed. Brian Weeden will follow up with our Select Board liaison, John <br /> Cotton to see if he could attend the next meeting. <br /> Brian Weeded is also on the New Mashpee Town Seal Committee.
