Richard Oo8orgher, Brian Hyde, Rosemary Burns Love and
Nancy Soderberg
Commissioners not Present: Joan Tavares-Avant and Brian VVaeden
PARSONAGE
Richard spoke to Rosemary about dendrochronology— Richard and Ava met with the Town Manager who
advised that Ava should contact David Weeden of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe to see if they could
provide the funding; and if not, vve could fall back on using Town funds. Rosemary feels that vvecould
use funds from our donation accounts to cover the costs so that it would not come from taxpayer funds.
Richard and Rosemary discussed the dating of the Parsonage. David VVeeden said they did have
someone go into the building to check on its condition, and it is not in good condition. Rosemary referred
us to a 1934 article about the Meetinghouse and the Tribe disassociated the Meetinghouse with any one
religion. The tenancy of the Meetinghouse went back and forth between the Baptist ministers and invited
ministers.
Avo asked if the Avant house/Indian Museum has ever been carbon dated. Rosemary said that the first
deed that we have is 1820. When you look atthe old pioturoo, there were two old structures on the
property.
Richard mentioned that David Weeden would also be interested in working with us on the cemetery
project. He has a list of cemeteries in Town, and would be willing to go through their records with us.
Rosemary brought up the old project of the naming of the roads, and David is also interested in working
with on that too.
Richard met with Bob Gray up at the Medfield Cemetery. Mr. Gray advised Richard that the gravestones
in the Lakewood Cemetery just needed to be lifted up and reset. He says that he has never had to go
through MA Historical. Catherine will na|| to check. Richard will work with Catherine and the DPW to
clean up that cemetery. |f they can get the approval from K8A Historical, they will goahead.
Richard commented on the MA Arborist Association and its work with communities around Arbor Day.
Richard put inarequest to the MA Arbor Association to see if they would help with the cemetery clean-
up. Richard advised uathat the DPW has now taken over the Tree Warden's job, and the DPW will now
be responsible for all the tree work at the Town-owned cemeteries.
