BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING <br /> TUESDAY, MARCH 10, 2020, 4:00 P.M. <br /> MASHPEE PUBLIC LIBRARY CONFERENCE ROOM <br /> Present: Ann Macdonald (via telephone), Joan Lyons, Mary LeClair (via telephone), Amanda <br /> Hall, Matthew Auger, Virginia Scharfenberg <br /> Absent: Sandra Horsman <br /> Also Present: Kathy Mahoney- Library Director <br /> Carolyn Savage - Assistant Library Director <br /> Joan Lyons, Co-Chair, called the meeting to order at 4:03 p.m. <br /> Public Comment <br /> None <br /> Approval of Minutes <br /> Joan Lyons motioned to approve the Regular Meeting minutes of January 14, 2020. No vote was <br /> taken as there was not a quorum of attendees from last meeting in attendance. <br /> Library Director's Report <br /> • The Town is wrapping up its annual budget. The Library budget is level funded and there <br /> will be no big changes. Union negotiations are currently underway. <br /> • Building -the building is 10 years old; there are a couple of HVAC issues. Power surges <br /> from a recent storm caused an outage on Sunday. The pilot light went out on Friday and <br /> had to be reset. <br /> • Shelving reconfigurations - shelving was moved from the director's office to the <br /> conference room to be utilized for ongoing book sale items. This will accommodate more <br /> items for a larger book sale. Patrons enjoy this and it will generate revenue that we have <br /> been missing. The second floor shelves are overflowing and we will weed some of the <br /> adult fiction to put in the book sale. The Library Director has attended Massachusetts <br /> Board of Library Commissioners building workshops that stress that fixtures should be <br /> moveable. We have also looked at the possibility of redoing the main circulation desk to <br /> allow for staff work space. The metal shelving throughout the building is beginning to <br /> chip and rust in some areas. We have looked at replacing some shelving but it's very <br /> expensive. <br /> • Magazine collection -many magazines are going out of print or offering online only <br /> versions. The Library's magazine renewal has increased to $6000 although the number of <br />
