The Selectmen proclaimed March as Women's History Month. He got a kick out of
seeing "Selectmen" honoring Women's History Month. The term should have been changed a
long time ago and it was brought to the Selectmen. They had a back and forth on the matter,
then it would need approval to go to Town Meeting. When Mr. Collins was going through the
process he got push back. That made Mr. Kupferman realize it was not done officially through
this Committee. It will be on the ballot in October. Mr. Kupferman thinks this Committee should
support it formally. Maybe they could get some students who feel strongly or would like to
speak to this issue.
Mr. Fand noted at the Select Board meeting only two members opposed, one was female.
Ms. Johnson-Graham asked if the MIDC can write a formal letter.
Mr. Kupferman will write a formal letter on behalf of the Committee. It will be brought back to
the Committee.
MOTION:
Mr. Kupferman is making a motion to recommend to the Selectmen, on behalf of MIDC,
to approve the change from Selectmen to Select Board. Seconded by Ms. Nadeau. All in
favor.
Ms. Nadeau stated the southeast coalition is made up of many similar committees. She has
been hearing towns all over changing the title. It is becoming more of a trend for the boards
that have Selectmen to change to Select Board.
Mr. Kupferman is going to bring this to Town Meeting. Eight or nine Cape towns have made
the change and over 100 communities in MA have made the change.
ADJOURNMENT
MOTION:
Ms. DeBoer made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:43a.m. Seconded by Mr.
Kupferman. All in favor.
The meeting ended at 10:43a.m.
NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 10:00a.m.
5
