e. Mashpee Commons is requesting information about summer events, such as side
walk sales, movie nights and bandstand performances.
f. We looked at the DESE guidance for in-person learning and the revised protocols
for close contacts.
g. The Governor changed the reopening Massachusetts time frames.
h. We looked at the J&J vaccine when that pause was issued. That occurred in the
last several weeks and there were clinics that were affected because of that.
i. We talked to Mashpee Village about small venue vaccines and have coordinated
with Christ the King, the Barnstable Fairgrounds, the schools and the Fire
Department regarding clinics.
In response to a questions from Chair Baumgaertel, Mr. Harrington described the new
protocols for determining close contacts in the schools. He reported that it increased the
number of close contacts but, where the school is doing the pooled testing, it has worked
out well. Mr. Harrington also explained that, for anything considered an event, a mask
must be worn. In a public place where you have the ability to social distance, a mask is
not required. A mask is required if you cannot socially distance.
Chair Baumgaertel asked what the vaccination rates are looking like in Town and if we
having any of the tracking information. Mr. Harrington responded that the state has been
providing that on the state dashboard. The 75 and older are 96% vaccinated. The 19-40
year olds are the largest group of unvaccinated. Chair Baumgaertel expressed that it is
good that the most susceptible population is at 96% because that certainly removes a lot
of the risk. Having the other groups with a lower percentage brings up some concerns
with the continuation of the spread of the disease. Mr. Harrington commented that a lot
of the clinics are being run after hours so that they can get more of the working crowd.
Cape Cod Healthcare and the Barnstable Fairgrounds were both holding clinics from
3:OOPM to 6:OOPM. We have put the clinics hours on social media to assist with getting
the word out to the younger populations. Mr. Baumgaertel mentioned that there's a lot
of misinformation that flows on social media, and he wished there was a better way to
get the information out there.
4. Discussion of COVID Vaccination Plan. Mr. Harrington commented that, on May 3, 2021,
the Governor stated that some of the mass vax clinics would be shut down and small
venues used. The Board of Health has not received any specific guidance on the
Governor's decision. Some of the local venues mentioned were religious sites and
Councils on Aging. At this point, we will not be using the Council on Aging. The 65+
population is 96%vaccinated, and we have other facilities more suited for clinics than the
Senior Center. In trying to get the vaccine to the smaller venues, Health Agents, along
with the Fire Department have been contacting places like Mashpee Village, Mashpee
Commons, Mashpee Chamber of Commerce, and the Schools to rally folks at the smaller,
local level.
We have had two clinics at Christ the King Church that are being offered through the
Community Health Center. The latest clinic was on April 30t" and about 250 doses were
administered. On April 29th, a clinic was held at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds for all
4
