MASHPEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br />SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING <br />Wednesday, October 20, 2021 <br />Present: Nicole Bartlett, Don Myers, Cathy Lewis, Matt Davis, Brian Weeden <br />Also present: Patricia DeBoer, Hope Hanscom, Ashley Lopes, Jaime Curley, Mark Balestracci, MaryKate O'Brien, Debra <br />Goulart <br />1. Ms. Bartlett called the meeting to order at 5:30pm in the Quashnet School Library <br />2. Ratify agenda of October 20, 2021 <br />Note: Any questions posed by individual School Committee members in advance of this meeting and responses <br />thereto are posted on the District's website ("School Committee Packets" and on the "Finance" page) <br />Motion to approve: Mr. Myers <br />Second: Ms. Lewis <br />Roll Call Vote: In favor: Ms. Bartlett, Mr. Myers, Ms. Lewis, Mr. Davis, Mr. Weeden <br />Opposed: none <br />3. Public Comment: none <br />4. Update on English Language Education (ELE) Program in Mashpee (Hope Hanscom): <br />Dr. Hanscom provided an update on the English Language Education (ELE) program in Mashpee, including <br />updates on current enrollment increases and staffing needs as well as the process by which ELs are screened and <br />serviced. <br />5. Approval of Minutes of September 22, 2021 <br />Mr. Weeden made a motion, with edits, seconded by Mr. Myers to approve the minutes of September 22, 2021 <br />Motion to approve: Mr. Weeden <br />Second: Mr. Myers <br />Roll Call Vote: In favor: Ms. Bartlett, Mr. Myers, Ms. Lewis, Mr. Davis, Mr. Weeden <br />Opposed: none <br />6. Coombs School Presentation - Music Teacher Liesl Crehan and students <br />7. Student Representative, Skyla Rimple (MMHS, Grades 9-12): <br />Miss Rimple shared several updates with the committee on topics including: Homecoming, fundraisers, college <br />applications, and athletic updates. <br />Student Representative, Deliyah Fortes (MMHS, Grades 7 and 8): <br />Miss Fortes thanked the Committee for the opportunity to be the middle school student representative. Miss Fortes <br />stated that she has been a school choice student since grade 4 and "would not change schools for the world". Her <br />update included information on: upcoming fundraisers, student government elections, and several class projects. <br />8. Representative from Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Education Department: <br />Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's Education Director, Roxanne Mills -Brown commended MPS for the beautiful <br />and meaningful flag raising ceremony held on October 12th at the Quashnet School. Ms. Brown updated the <br />committee on several topics including: current grant statuses, curriculum work, professional development, <br />personnel updates, and construction for a childcare center. <br />
