Shellfish Constable Report
Mr. McElligatt said they finished broadcasting the remaining 1.3 million oysters around town in targeted
areas. Very low rates of mortality. We had 1.5 million quahogs broadcasted this year and 2.7 million
planted under nets. They grew fast this year, 5% of what we got is already at 3". This shows that we need
a tumbler. We know exactly where everything is this year and will be able to track better than we have in
the past.
We will overhaul the entire intake system through upwellers this winter. I'd like to go from 4 small
independents to 1 big submerged.
We're understaffed but making the best of it.
Recreation oyster fishery should open up November 1, there's plenty of product.
Permit sales are level with what we had last year.
Our primary workboat went through some changes/upgrades. We have funding for another boat, but the
price point is pre-COVID. We're trying to make it work.
