Article 13 To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Selectmen to sell and convey to the United States of America an 8 .76 +/- acre parcel of land identified as 'Tract A#1 4" on a plan on file with the office of the Town clerk with said parcel being a portion of a lot identified as Assessors Map 27, -lot 25, notwithstanding the provision' of Section '2. 9. 2 of the Town By-Laws, Motion to sell and convey for the sum o $39,400.' ..YES, 129. .NO 10-. . * *80944 P.M. Motion carries The Finance Committee recommends this Article having concerns of what account the funds received from the sale of Town Owned Land will go. The Federal Government has notified Town officials of its intention to take by eminent domain 8. 76 acres of Town-owned land. This area is a portion bf a 55~acre parcel that includes the playing fields and Rec- reation Building. This parcel extends from Route 130 to the current perimeter of the military base. It is shown on a plan on the follow~ ing page since 1960, the U.S. has held an 11avigation" easement on the acres that prohibits the Town from any practical use of the property other than pedestrian passage. There is no question that the U. S. will take control of the property; for the Town to gain a larger financial compensation, an unknown amount would be expended for appraisals and legal costs. According to statute, these funds can be used n . . .for acquisition of land for park purposes or for capital improvements to park land.
