I
Article 2
To see if the Town will vote to appropriate and transfer from available funds $65,000 to
the Mashpee Memorial Park Account, or take any other action relating thereto.
Submitted by the Board of Selectmen
Explanation: The Town of Mashpee, in conjunction with the Mashpee 2000 Committee,
a private, not for profit group organized to mark the coming of a new millenium for
Mashpee, is working on the construction of a Memorial Park in Mashpee. This small
project is an important step for our Town in that it is our first park dedicated to honoring
those who have fought for the freedoms we enjoy, and will also serve as a long-standing,
inspiring and beautiful gift to the residents of Mashpee.
The site of the park is the prominent location at the corner of Great Neck Road North and
Route 130, directly across from the Town Hall at the site of"Collins Lot". The park's
attractive design includes a memorial to honor Mashpee Veterans who have served in all
wars, as well as a platform for outdoor performances and a kiosk for Mashpee events.
In order for the park to be a successful project, it is critical to receive community support
and funding to aid the Town's efforts. The total cost of the park will be about$130,000.
The Mashpee 2000 Park Committee has requested funding from the Town for
approximately half of the total cost, with the remainder to be raised through community
pledges.
Recommendation: The Finance Committee recommends approval.
Motion made by Selectman Taylor.
Motion: I move the Town vote to appropriate and transfer from revenue available for
appropriation$65,000 to the Mashpee Memorial Park Account.
Motion passes unanimously at 7:40 p.m.
Article 3
To see if the Town will vote to approve the terms of an intermunicipal agreement !
between the Mashpee Board of Selectmen, the Mashpee School Committee, and the 'a
Mashpee Water District Board of Water Commissioners, and to authorize the Board of
Selectmen to enter into a lease with the Mashpee Water District to provide School
Administration facilities at the Mashpee Water District's facility on Industrial Drive in
Mashpee; and further, that a sum of money be raised and appropriated to provide for
modifications and improvements to said facility in order to accommodate the School
Committee's needs, and that the Treasurer be authorized to pay over such funds to the
Mashpee Water District as set forth in the intermunicipal agreement; or take any other
action relating thereto.
Submitted by the Board of Selectmen
2
