Aft 10
\ = Q Aashpee IncCusion and Diversit- Committee
16 Great Neck R.oadWorth
.Mashpee, -Massachusetts 02649
She notes the article involving Ms. Hennessey and her canine being used as a comfort dog
at the school. Mr. Kupferman wrote a great article of the historic importance of the name
change to the Select Board. She did not realize the state association also changed their
name.
Mr. Kupferman forwarded the article to the Select Board and he was thanked by the Town
Manager. Mr. Kupferman wanted to note that the column was a sufficient outlet as opposed
to writing a formal letter on behalf of the Committee. Lastly, he was wondering if Ms.
Stevenson contacted Ms. Purdy.
Chairwoman stated she will get to that later in the agenda, but inquired about his next
article.
Mr. Kupferman interviewed Ms. lqbal, the active student representative on the Committee.
He wrote a piece about her immigration and how she was born in the USA but her parents
emigrated from Pakistan. He also interviewed her father, which added a great story! He will
be finished in two weeks, but noted this is a great way to kick off the project. He will then tie
it back to the project.
Ms. Stevenson also spoke to Ms. Purdy about alumni, one being in Somalia, and it may be
good to follow up with former graduates. That may be an option for a future column article.
Ms. Stevenson will work with her on that.
Chairwoman is participating in a book discussion run by the League of Women Voters.
They have an initiative for DEI. This was the second series on discussing the book
Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man. It is a very down to earth book about a
former football player, he is able to put things into perspective in an easy fashion. His family
is from Nigeria, but he was brought up in Texas and football enabled his interactions with
more black men. Now there are four black women on the League of Women Voters and
one chose this book. This is a very readable book for everyone.
Ms. Nadeau added that he is on YouTube and if you put in the search of his book, you can
watch videos. She was looking at the videos over a year ago. She recommended them to a
lot of people.
Ms. Stevenson said he has come up with children's stories. His last name is Acho. He is
approachable.
OLD BUSINESS
2
