down from this matter based upon possible conflict of
interest issues .
She also thanked the Town Administrator, Fire Chief,
Police Chief, and the Audio Visual Staff .
Ms. Kane then intzoduced Planning Board Members
Steve Dolan, Lee Currey, and Dennis Balaini . She
acknowledged the Planning Department Staff, Thomas Fudala,
Town Planner; nd Eric Smith, Assistant Town Planner.
■
She acknowledged Representative Matt Patrick; Margo Fenn,
Executive Dir ctor of the Cape Cod Commission; John Lipman,
Chief Planner Cape Cod Commission; and Chief Silent Drum,
Vernon Lopez, Wampanoag elation.
"As you all }snow, the Planning Board has voted t
nominate the Town. of Mashpee for a District of Critical
Planning Concern, commonly called a DCPC which is provided
for under the Cape Cod Commission Act . On Tuesday, August
24 to the Planning Board and Cape Cod Commission Staff met
for the required pre-application process. Because many of
our issues cross town boundaries, we invited town planners
from our neighboring towns . Planners from Falmouth,
Sandwich, and Barnstable joined us for this meeting. The
DCPC is a planning tool that can help us dead with
important town issues related to traffic, land use, growth
management, and other important issues.. Mashpee has a
Local Comprehensive Plan which was completed in 1998, but
while some goals and objectives in that plan are underway
r complete, many others are not . It is in some ways a
outdated plan that does not adequately reflect our current
situation. We hope that you picked up a copy of the
handout prepared for you this evening with some description
of the DCPC/progression. I would call your attention to
the very last paragraph., which provides the Planning
Department e-mail address and website where additional
information is provided and will continue to be provided
throughout the process . Please note that the Planning
Board will be accepting written comments by mail/e-mail
until September 15, 2004 for input into preparation of the
nomination form. "
Ms . Kane informed the members of the public that other
Public Hearings would be scheduled throughout the process
as deermed appropriate. It is the intention of the Planning
Board to keep the public informed.
2
