Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> January 2 , 2004 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Transfer Station Contract Discussion: (continued) <br /> negotiating team comprised of Catherine Laurent, Joyce Mason and <br /> Chuck Green will discuss the natter with Maurice Casenell, the present <br /> operator of the llahpee Transfer Station. <br /> Massachusetts Producer Take Back C np ian: <br /> For informational purposes,the Department of Public works presented <br /> memorandum to the Selectmen dated December 30, 2003 relative to their <br /> recommendation to support the Massachusetts Producer Take Back <br /> Campaign and the attendant proposed legislation. <br /> Council on AgiIIS.Director—Propeqy Tax Abatement Pro ram; <br /> James Long, Council on Aging Director reviewed the property tax <br /> abatement program with the Board of Selectmen. In excess of thirty-five <br /> taxpayers applied for the program, and nineteen taxpayers met the position <br /> description requirements by the respective department. <br /> The program was met with a lot of enthusiasm by both the participants and <br /> the town departments which made use of their services. The departments <br /> included, the Town Clerk, Town Treasurer/Tax Collector, Historical <br /> Commission, Library, Police Department, School Department, Personnel <br /> and Council on Aging. <br /> Last year, the Selectmen authorized 20 positions at each for the tax <br /> abatement progr rn. Discussion followed with respect to the $10,000 cap <br /> and the ability to increase the number of positions to 30 if overtime <br /> support is needed in Town Hall. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Marsters to continue the Property Tax <br /> Abatement Program,, and funding for twenty positions, granting the <br /> flexibility to the Town Administrator to increase the number o <br /> participants to 30 if the Town Hall departments can snake use of their <br /> services. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. -00 <br />
