Mashpee Wakeby Lake Management
Committee
November 23,2021'
700 PM
Mash ee Town Hall
Meeting called by Paul Bibo
Type of meeting: Monthly
Secretary Barbara B. Nichols
Attendees: Members: Mike Rapacz, Donald MacDonald, Barbara Nichols
Guests: Vivian Sun
The minutes of the October 26, 2021 meeting were accepted as written after a motion by Don McDonald
and second by Mike Rapacz
Agenda topics
[Agenda topic 11 Lake level/River outflow
Discussion: Measurements were taken by Debi McManus on November 1st. and 15"'. They were 56.5.
and 55.5 Ft. above sea level. There were 16.5 and 13.5 inches of water flowing over the board closest to
the lake and 18 and 11.5 inches of water in the stream afoot out from the stairs. A lot of herring were
noted going downstream on November lst. Debi also noted a major blockage of a large tree branch, old
door and a green kayak just downstream from the cage. The water velocity was increased. We had 10. 9
inches of rain in Barbara's rain gauge. After emailing the levels to Conservation, Drew emailed me back
on November 3rd that they had removed the branch, kayak, and door from the stream. He preferred not to
make changes in board levels based on these numbers with the blockage. The level had dropped on the
15t"
Conclusions: The lake level was up a foot with a major blockage which had been removed.
[Agenda topic 2] No Wake buoys in Channel
Discussion: Don reported back from the Waterways committee and Jeff Smith that the best plan would be
to increase the size of print on the present buoys and use stricter enforcement. Private land owners would
be encouraged to put No Wake signs on their docks or shoreline. New signs with the appropriate hardware
for the 40-foot depth would be in the $3500 range each.
Conclusions: Funds are not available from Waterways to increase sign size. Print size will be enlarged.
