[Agenda topic 3] Clean Water Plan
Discussion: Discussion was held about the regulatory boards meeting on November 8"' which was
televised. Barbara was concerned that Title 5 septics do little to remove the nutrients, phosphorus and
nitrogen that affect our waters. Mike was able to answer our questions about sludge disposal as markets
on sludge disposal are closing due to the PFAS remaining. He mentioned that Yarmouth has a private
enterprise interested in building there and accepting sludge for a fee from other cape towns. Taunton may
be an option. A member wondered if a digester should be placed on the base as they were responsible for
putting most of the PFAS in our nearby lakes and also had plenty of land area. Barbara wondered if the
rules for septics should be tightened until sewering is in place, and Mike said they were reprinting rules
from a lower cape town which should be out within 6 months.
The phosphorus in the deep areas of Mashpee Pond is increasing, although the lake remains in the
mesotrophic range. Wakeby is now classified as eutrophic. Fish consumption advisories are now out
PFAS in bass in the lakes from DNR and AF. Mercury advisories have been in place for several years.
Another meeting will be held December 13"' and Paul and Don will speak about run-off which is another
big problem in contributing to water contamination. See below.
Conclusions: A good discussion yielded much interest. Don and Paul will speak on December 1 Ot" .
[Agenda topic 4] Lakewood run-off into Mashpee
Lake
Discussion: The recent heavy rains have caused a major washout into the lake on the corner of Lakewood
Ave. Paul and Don contacted DPW and Catherine responded. DPW increased the size of catch basins in
this area a yew years ago, but they proved inadequate. The Town will place a berm there in an attempt to
stop the run- off. Don and Paull will speak about this at the December meeting and encourage others to
look for similar problems with run-off in their neighborhoods.
Conclusions: DPW will place a berm on Lakewood to try and stop run-off into Mashpee Lake.
[Agenda topic S] 2022 Meeting Dates
Discussion: Members decided to continue meeting on the fourth Tuesday at 7 PM monthly except
December and February. Barbara presented the list of dates and will request a room in town Hall for the
year.
Conclusions: Meeting dates will remain the same and Barbara will request a room.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:04 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
r MASWPEE TOWN CLERK
♦♦ t w
JAN 2 6 2022
Barbara B. Nichols
