environment and natural resources. To Brad's point about the boat ramps, we have no
washing stations. We're polluted because of the simple fact that people are out in the
ocean and rinsing out in the ponds. That's how we get invasive species. I think these are
actual steps we can take in our purview. Perhaps we can create positions to help all the
departments, as an example, hire someone to help with educating people to help the
Conservation department out.
Mr.O'Neill said why not something like MassSave does with installation, to help
homeowners convert to a better system?
Agent suggested to add a climate change regulation to the bylaws like some other towns
have done.
Assistant Agent recapped what everyone had said so far.The Commission agreed that
all ideas should be submitted to the Selectboard through The Chairman so it's all
concise and organized.
Ms. Zollo said she's interested in looking at other towns' bylaws, it seems like we in
Mashpee are "yes"people, approving things that other towns would say no to. Mr.Sweet
asked for her to clarify why she thinks that. Mr. Smith said he's impressed with our town
and the Conservation Department's ability to look for the answer that serves all parties
rather than have a combative environment that poisons our town. Ms.Zollo said that
she's speaking more to other towns, as an example, we approved things that would not
fly in Falmouth. Not looking to be combative, but it's ok to say no sometimes.
Agent said there's always room to strengthen bylaw language. It's also important that
we condition projects accordingly.Stronger regulations based on sound reasoning is
important.
• Discussion: Enforcement Order for 55 Horseshoe Bend Way N/A
• Updates:
o Childs River restoration
Falmouth Rod and Gun Club submitted final report that will be dispersed to the
Commissioners.
o Red Brook Road culvert
The Town qualified for the replacement grant program for technical assistance,
which may lead to financial assistance.
o Upper Quashnet restoration N/A
o Bylaw Review subcommittee
Agent will send dates out for next meetings.
o Johns Pond Milfoil
Final reports should be coming at the end of this month with any recommendations
for any additional treatment based on this year's round of treatment.
o Chop Chaque Bog (Conservation Restriction)
The Conservation restriction has been sent to EEA for approval and will go to
Commission and Selectboard for final approval. The contract with In Lieu Fee
Program has been extended to 2/28 to allow time for this to occur.Awaiting Phase
2 draft contract for final design and plans and looking at additional funding
opportunities.
Ms. Zollo suggested we edit and add the word"accessible" to the document.
• ADDITIONAL TOPICS:
(This space is reserved for topics that the Chairman did not reasonably anticipate would
be discussed).
ADJOURNMENT:
