0
I MASHPEE FIRE & RESCUE DEPARTMENT
20 Frank Hicks Drive, Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649
508-539-1454 FAX 508-539-1453
TO: Jamie Regan, Vice Chair, Zoning yar_dFROM: George W. Baker, Fire Chief
DATE: April 9, 2003
RE: Height Variance Request, Mashpee Commons, Building 16
As you are aware, Deputy Chief Hamblin and I have been meeting with the Douglas
Storrs of Mashpee Common in regards to his request for a height variance for proposed
Building 16 Mashpee Commons.
• As the building stands alone, with the considerations enumerated on the attached letter
from Randell Imai included in the variance as conditions, I am not opposed to this height
variance request.
•
However, as this building affects the fire load of the Mashpee Commons as a complex I
do have a concern.
Currently, buildings I la and 14 have sprinkler systems that do not meet the NFPA
standard for fire suppression systems (the attics are not protected). It is my hope that
when the Zoning Board of Appeals s acts regarding this variance Item 13 of Mr. Imai's
Letter is included in the conditions.
I am unable to attend this evening's meeting to personally present my opinion of this
request but will make myself available for a future meeting if the board so desires.
CC D.
