Although many of these items are addressed by the building code, the intent of other items is to supplement the requirements of the code. 1. The building will be retail (mercantile) uses on the first floor and residential uses on the upper two floors. Separations between the uses will follow the requirements of the Massachusetts Building Code. Section 313.1.2 (Separated Use Groups) requires a 2 -hour separation between mercantile and residential uses, but allows that requirement to be reduced to one hour if there is an automatic sprinkler system throughout. 2. During our normal building permit process, we will submit our code report to the Mashpee Building Department as well as the Fire Department. 3. The building will be designed with an automatic fire protection system (sprinklers). The system will be a commercial system with residential heads in the apartments. It is our intent to avoid the use of dry systems in this building, but if they are used in un -heated attic space, the dry system will incorporate commerical heads. 4. A standpipe system is proposed in each stairwell. The standpipe will be connected to the sprinkler system. 5. The existing fire department connection on Building 12 will be moved to the Steeple Street side of the building. The new Fire Department connection for Building 16 will also be located on Steeple Street near the Building 12 connection. A 4 -foot fire lane will be • marked in the parking lane on the Street.
