We will have the fire protection drawings reviewed by a third party by peer review by a second fire protection engineering consultant. We will look into this and propose a review process to the Fire Department. 7. There will be a smoke control hatch on the top of each stairwell, equipped with a heat -fusible link. The hatch will be designed so that Fire Department personnel can open the stair hatches from the outside. 8. The separation between Building 16 and Building 12 is 10'-6". The Massachusetts Building Code requires a 1 -hour exterior fire resistance rating (from the inside) for use group M, reduced to 0 hours because there is an automatic sprinkler system throughout. There is a 0 hour rating required for the residential uses on the second floor. Please note, this item differs from the discussion we had in your office. At that time we had discussed the possibility of exterior sprinklers, but these are not required by the Code. If you so desire, we will provide exterior sprinklers on this building (manually controlled by the Fire Department). 9. It is proposed that there will be built-in fire suppression at the kitchen stove in each apartment. We will submit specification on the system and its viability as the design develops. 10. We will investigate the NFPA 101 suggestions for high and low exit signs and review this with you to see if it is appropriate for this building. 11. During construction, the Fire Protection Engineer will submit a report to the Fire Department following a review of the installation of the sprinkler system. 12. We will develop loading areas for the design of Buildings 17 and review them with the Fire Department to coordinate fire lane locations. 137) We have retained R.W. Sullivan, a registered fire protection engineer, to assess the automatic fire protection systems in Buildings 14 and 11A. They will be in contact with your department shortly. They will also look at providing a fire protection system for Building 6 at the same time.
