' EXHIBIT A
1 •
' PROJECT DESCRIPTION INTOCCIA PIER
' MODIFICATION
' The Intoccia lot lies westerly of Popponessett Island Road. It has been developed for sometime
' with a single family dwelling, stone revetment and pier. The existing bank access stairs are set
into the revetment on the south side of the shore frontage, while the pier is on the north side.
There is no direct access from the yard to the pier. Permitting has recently been completed for
' an in-ground pool and associated landscaping.
The southerly section of the shorefront has a narrow sandy beach which has been experiencing
' down cutting so that the toe stones from the wall are being exposed. The beach on the north side
of the site is higher and well vegetated with American Beachgrass and a variety of forbes. A salt
marsh extends seaward of the beach.
• The existing pier is licensed by both the town and state. It consists of a fixed pile-supported pier
with ramp and float. Stairs access the beach at the landward end. It extends t72'beyond MHW
' and t32' beyond MLW. A total of 16 piles support the structure and anchor the ramp and float.
The project proposes to modify the pier and perch a beach.
' The pier modifications have three components. The first is maintenance of the fixed section of
' the pier and the ramp within their current footprints. The existing timber components are CCA
treated. The new components will employ alternative treatments or materials not requiring
preservatives.
' The second component of the modification is the construction of a wooden walkway connecting
the yard directly with the pier. This has obvious convenience benefits to the owner. It will also
' act to limit foot traffic over vegetated portions of the beach. Four additional piles, two at the
base of the wall and two approximately 12' out are required for support. All of these are in the
dry section of the beach. There will be sufficient head room beneath the walkway to allow for
' pedestrian passage beneath it. A gate will be provided at or near the top of the revetment.
Lastly, it is proposed to modify and reorient the float. The current float is an 8'x20' platform
' oriented perpendicular to shore, and secured by four piles; two near the landward end and two set
as a dolphin at the seaward end. Although there is t4.8' of water at MLW at the seaward end of
the pier, there is less than 27 at the interior end. We are proposing to replace this float with a
' • 6x32' float running parallel to the shore. The seaward face of the float will be f8' interior of the
