Mashpee Zoning Minutes—August 28, 2002 11
Board of Appeals
I
to see the group of businesses get together, pave the road and put a little sign up with
small signs indicating which business is where. Mr. Regan also informs Mr. Carter that
this is not Mr. Field's property. Mr. Fields tells the board that he is paving the road at his
expense. Mr. Brem feels nothing should be done or discussed until the road is paved.
The road is going from a private road to a public road and is still in limbo with respect to
where and when the money is coming to complete this paving.
Comments from abutters and neighbors:
Henry Deroschiers
561 Main Street
Mr. Deroschiers shows the board several pictures of signs currently on the corner of Echo
Road and Main Street, which is directly across the street from where he lives. Mr. Fields
informs Mr. Desrochiers that the sign that says "Redemption Center"that is there now
was there before his acquisition of the business.
Sidney Heimberg, Esq.
Sturgis Lane
Mr. Heimberg went into a very lengthy legal discussion as to why this permit should not
I ,
be granted for this sign. In general, he feels all of these signs hinder the look of a nice
country-like community that he and his fellow neighbors are trying to maintain. The dust
that large trucks and other traffic produce is utterly unbearable. Legally the owner of a
record must produce a set of plans upon requesting a permit and the petition states no
plans have been submitted.
Arden Cadrin
Sturgis Lane
She stands opposed to this sign and feels there are too many erected already.
Additionally, Mr. Fields is not the property owner and she has concerns with that as well.
The Design Review Committee states there is not enough of a special need to erect a sign
larger than allowed 20 square feet.
Mr. Nelson moves to deny the following special permit because:
I
♦ Petitioner does not own the subject property. '
Findings are as follows: off premise sign, does not own the building, not on the property
where the business is conducted, and not advertising where the business is conducted.:
I i
Marshall Brem seconds the motion. All agree.
I
I ,
