TOWN OF MASHPEE Board of Appeals Minutes June 23, 1993 The Mashpee Board of Appeals held a meeting on Wednesday, June 23, 1993 at 7:30 P.M. at the Mashpee Town Hall. Board members present and acting throughout were: John J. Friel, Chairman; Michael A. Makunas, Vice-chairman; Edward M. Govoni. Clerk and Jamie Regan, Associate Member. Mr. Friel called the meeting to order at 7:35 P.M. Nynex Mobile Communications - Requests a special Permit under Section 174-25.H.6 of the Zoning By-laws for permission to erect a 180' telephone tower for cellular phone service. The proposed tower will replace an existing 120' tower in an R-5 zoning district on property located at 135 Main St. (Map 37, Block 58) Mashpee. MA. (Owner of record: S. Joseph Dimaggio). Members sitting: J. Friel, M. Makunas, E. Govoni Attorney Jeremy Carter represented the applicant and reviewed plans for the proposed tower. He explained that the tower is a replacement for the 120' tower and is needed to provide good quality reception. He referred to letters from the D.P.W., Fire Dept. and Building inspector which stated that Otis had no problem with it. He said that NYNEX had tested other sites in Town and found this location the best. Richard Bird of Nynex stated that the tower would be used to tie in coverage for the Police and Coast Guard and provide a back up to the local telephone service and provide information in case of hurricanes. He said that a condition of the lease is that the tower not interfere with radio or TV reception. He said they had FAA approval for 180'. Mr. Friel asked for information on other sites tested and Mr. Bird said they had tested at the Police Station and the proposed water tank but testing was better at the Dimaggio site. He said they already had towers in N. Falmouth and Bourne'.
