• Board of Appeals <br />Minutes - June 23. 1993 2. <br />Mr. Govoni asked if guide wires were to be used and Mr. Bird' <br />said this tower was self supporting and much safer than a <br />tower with guidewires. <br />Mr. Makunas asked for a comparison in height with the WCIB <br />tower in Falmouth and Mr. Bird replied that the WCIB was <br />5001. He said cellular 1 was renting space. There was <br />discussion of the Mashpee cable tower and Mr. Carter said it <br />was over 200'. Mr. Bird said there would be no lights on the <br />tower and it would not be painted but would be made of <br />galvanized steel. He said they could not get FAA approval <br />without an O.K. from the military. He said they would have <br />maintenance every 4 - 6 weeks. He said they had offered <br />services to the Town at no cost. <br />Mr. Makunas asked if there would be an microwave dishes and <br />Mr. Bird replied that one would be used as a link between <br />sites. Robert Kelley, Nynex radio engineer, said it might <br />link Sandwich with Mashpee. <br />• Hazel Oakley, a Mashpee resident, asked if Nynex was renting <br />the space.for the use of the tower. Mr. Bird said they would <br />be leasing land. Ms. Oakley asked what access they would <br />have to the tower and Mr. Bird replied that they would have <br />the common access now used by businesses at the site. Ms. <br />Oakley reviewed plans and questioned if tower could fall in a <br />hurricane. <br />Randolph Peters. Jr., a Mashpee resident, presented a <br />petition signed by residents of the area in opposition to the <br />tower. <br />Paul Mills, a Mashpee resident, said that he did not consider <br />this an extension of an existing use but as a new use which <br />he did not consider proper for the area. Mr. Peters said <br />the area had never been zoned for commercial use. Mr. Peters <br />said that Mr. Dimaggio was claiming some of his lot. Mr. <br />Carter said there was no question that the tower was on Mr. <br />Dimaggio's property. Mr. Dimaggio said the lot was zoned <br />commercial in 1976. Mr. Govoni explained that any change of <br />zoning would have to go to Town Meeting. Mr. Friel said that <br />land ownership issues were not the question before the Board. <br />• <br />
