• Board of Appeals
Minutes - June 23. 1993 3.
Morgan James Peters asked if any studies had been done on the
health hazards of the tower or the microwave dish. He said he
would like this answered by someone who is objective. Mr.
Bird replied that there have been a number of studies and he
said there was nothing conclusive either way. He said it
would be a mistake to lie on behalf of Nynex.
Ms. Oakley asked what the Town of Mashpee had to say since
they are a direct abutter. Mr. Friel said the Board had not
received any comments. She said if the tower falls it will
fall on someone's home. Mr. Bird said there are no buildings
within 1801. -
Mr. Mills said they have not considered the visual impact of
the tower. Mr. Makunas questioned the difference in the
presented plot plan and the assessor's records.
Mr. Makunas said the tower could effect television reception
if TV antennas were used near the tower. He asked if NYNEX
would supply cable to anyone effected. Mr. Bird said they
• would be willing to correct whatever the problem was.
Mr. Makunas said the site would interfere with reception on
police and fire scanners. Mr. Bird disagreed and said that
the FCC would not permit this. He said he would give out a
phone number for complaints.
Randolph Peters stated that he is already having a problem
with television reception because of the present tower.
Hazel Oakley asked why NYNEX could not reach out to the needs
of the neighbors. Mr. Peters said that almost everyone on
130 is opposed to the tower.
John Doherty said the present tower has to be replaced. The
proposed tower would be safer since it would be further back
on the building and the area would be fenced.
Mr. Makunas asked if the tower height was restricted to 120'
would that preclude this site from being used. Mr. Bird
replied that they would not pursue the permit for 120'. He
said they would then need another site for a second tower.
Mr. Makunas moved to take the application under advisement.
,Mr. Govoni seconded. All agreed. Mr. Friel explained that
the Board had 90 days to make the Decision. He said the
Board would take written submissions.
• Mr. Friel called a recess at 8:35 P.M. The Board reconvened
at 8:45.
