Mr. Carter spoke with Stephanie McGee who is renewing (already sent in application) and not
interested in sharing or Zoom calls. Alan Peterson is renewing and not interested in Zoom calls. He
left voicemails for the other gardeners he tried contacting.
Ms. Harris spoke with Linda Milano, she is not renewing plot 14. Chris Berg is renewing and not
interested in sharing or Zoom calls. Her other contacts, Myra and Jan, had non-working phone
numbers. Ms. Harris is renewing.
Ms. Scharfenberg said Bill Nay is not renewing. Russell Colligan and Ms. Scharfenberg are renewing
their plots. She left a message for Donna Banner.
Mr. Fahd is renewing his plot. He suggested a 24-hour reminder for the Zoom calls. We also should
do a dry run of a Zoom call, regardless of how many people attend.
Ms. Harris will text Frank Gallello to see if he is renewing as he is on vacation.
Ms. Scharfenberg will contact Drew McManus at Town Hall to see if he has received more
applications.

Wait Lists update for 2022 season – Virginia
The person first in line on the waitlist, Amy Pina, is interested in taking over the vacant plot 20 and is
willing to share it. Ms. Scharfenberg has a waitlist of people since 2020 listed in order of applications
received. Of those contacted, 9 will renew, 2 are willing to share, 1 has moved away, and the rest
were left voicemails.

OLD BUSINESS:
Compost bins and maintenance/use/appearance and maintenance of area behind them – Board
approvals – Lynn Harris
Ms. Harris said we need to address composting, especially with 14 new gardeners. Ms. Scharfenberg
said we could check with other towns to see what they do. Ms. Harris said maybe a local landscaper
could take the waste. Mr. Fahd said the transfer station takes it. Ms. Carberry said that’s a good
idea, we’re close, people could take it to the transfer station.
Ms. Harris said we need to keep the area behind the compost bins, especially with the number of
walking tours. Ms. Carberry agreed. Ms. Harris said we should do away with the individual
experiments back there. Mr. Fahd said to leave the things in the back for him. Ms. Scharfenberg said
no, it’s a public space not for individual use. Maybe a shaded garden, or just nothing. Either way, it
needs to be kept neat and clean. We could ask gardeners what they think and DPW to see what they
could do in that area. There’s no need to decide now. Ms. Carberry suggested DPW may be able to
help with garden clean up. We could leave piles for them to pick up.
Gardeners who have indicated willingness to share their 12’ x 8’ garden bed. (Discussed earlier
during “Phone calls to current/returning gardeners and status of 2022 applications” agenda item)
Plans for Zoom call with 20 gardeners and whether to postpone until March. Review of content
for the Zoom meetings. Discuss future schedule for communication in weeks and months after
the call with 20 gardeners.
Ms. Scharfenberg suggested doing away with Zoom calls since there’s not much interest.
Ms. Harris said it could just be spontaneous, as needed. Like a kick-off in April.
Expand on ideas for 2022 educational programming and materials for gardeners (composting,
extreme weather impacts, gardener sharing of garden tips/plants they recommend trying/etc.).
Ms. Harris said a gathering in May would be a good time for a site cleanup. People could bring
chairs and we can talk about what we’re growing and share gardening tips. Another idea is a lunch
gathering using things people grew with a recipe swap.
2
