OF
M4Scti
iic Lire
Cusion and Diversityylashpee Inc y Committee
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
She has an eleven year old daughter and an eighteen month old. Her husband is from
America. He is German and Polish, his family grew up in Easton, Ma generationally. His
Grandfather was involved in the town.
Q. You alluded to circumstances of being out with your husband and people would treat
you differently. Can you explain that more?
A. Ms. Kent commented when her and her husband would be at Mashpee Commons for
example, they walk around and she's bubbly and friendly. People will look past her and
say hi to her husband. Not ever being in that situation, her husband didn't understand.
This would happen to her all the time. She informed him to pay attention and he did see
it first-hand. She was able to give him a moment of understanding.
Mr. Kupferman wanted to inform the Committee that Ms. Kent has hit the ground
running in the subcommittee and has been a great and active participant.
Ms. Stevenson also noted Ms. Hick's involvement too. She is glad everyone can share
the work, as she is currently heavily involved with the "Who We Are" project. She
informed everyone to fill out the interview form and to send back to Kim Landry. The
decision will be sent to the Select Board who will then approve her as a voting member.
Chairwoman would like everyone to think of other projects or events we can be doing
for next year and in the future. Race Amity Day will be an ongoing annual event. Maybe
we can develop a plan to maintain the Who We Are project into the following year. It will
continue with the relationships of people who have contributed, but we should be
looking at all of our groups in town. How can we encourage more diversity within
leadership of the town and members of committees? Can we bring attention to that?
The Tribe is a large group but there may be many others.
Ms. Hicks commented that she was at the women's offshoot of the Restorative Justice
meeting this week and she thought their Land Acknowledgement was really beautiful.
She offered to ask if we could use their statement or pieces of it. She will follow up if it is
something they would consider.
Mr. Kupferman thought that would be fine, and maybe they could be blended.
Ms. Stevenson would like to meet in person next time, May 17tn
6
