of M4
iet wrm
P'l4sUW,N'n5¢4
Mashpee incCusion and Diversity Committee
16 Great Neck Road North
Aashpee, AA 02649
A. She knows it's not a regulatory committee. The MIDC plays a vital role in uniting
diversity through awareness. It's very important to promote cultural enrichment and
acceptance so we can better understand cultures when creating a community.
Q. Tell us about your life leading up to here.
A. She wants to make a positive impact. She has a strategic marketing background from
her corporate life years ago. She has a lot of respect and empathy. Through her prior
work she had the opportunity to travel and was introduced to many different cultures,
countries, and languages. What may not be respectful for one may be for another. She
has learned to adjust but respect and empathy is what she is grounded on. Cultures
have been welcoming to her despite not being born there and it felt like home every
time. She mentioned in her letter that is not always the case here. She understands now
how it is to belong and finally how it is to be treated differently. Now her 11 year old
daughter experiences some of these things. Nobody should have to experience that
awful feeling. She is all for improving and promoting this community and creating a
welcoming environment for a fragile future.
Ms. Kent is available to make the 5:00p.m. meetings held on the third Tuesday of every
month.
Q. Would you be willing to devote extra time on a subcommittee?
A. She replied that she is already a part of the Race Amity Day subcommittee.
Mr. Fand is pleased with her answers.
Ms. Stevenson commented that the MIDC may not be able to make judgements on
issues of racism, but we can follow and see where the educational needs are. The
Committee is very active in an advisory capacity.
Q. Tell us about the different countries you have been to.
A. Ms. Kent was born in the Philippines and grew up in Japan. She spent her adult hood in
Malaysia. Her former job gave her the opportunity to travel more as she took care of 32
countries, she visited Indonesia, Thailand, China, and Australia to name a few. It was
really nice to learn their respective languages. It has been a while since she has needed
to use them but she would be able to remember some.
5
