w
Mashpee 1"ncCuswn aruCDiversity Committee
16 Great Neck Road North
Masdpee, M-A 02649
Mr. Kupferman and Ms. Hicks will be Co-Chairing the subcommittee and the same
volunteers from last year are participating. They have already been in contact with the
Select Board for the proclamation for Race Amity Day.
Mr. Kupferman commented that last year the celebration was only two hours. This year we
are expanding it to four hours. There is money in the budget this year and the hope is to
make it more of a festival than just an acknowledgment. They are hoping to get food trucks
and more entertainment. Maybe the last hour can really just be music and socializing. The
program will have concluded at that point. The GroovaLottos will be performing this year.
He noted Ms. Johnson-Graham will inquire about Morgan Peters to see if they are available
to close out the show with a set. Performers can be given a stipend. The subcommittee will
be meeting every two Thursdays at 5:30p.m. The next meeting is April 28th. You don't have
to make every meeting but there is a lot of energy and great ideas.
3. Access for Elderly
Madam Chair spoke to Mr. Lehrer, Town Planner. They are going to have some other
meetings to discuss certain issues with stakeholders. She would like to be representing that
notion. One is community and the other is buildings. She is looking to Mr. Klein and Mr.
Fand for any information to contribute before she attends.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Interview for vacancy: Rowela Kent
Ms. Stevenson spoke about Rolf, the gentleman who sat in on the previous meeting. He is
tied up over the next few months, then a letter of interest came in for Ms. Kent. She thought
it best to respond to her interest at this time. Sample interview questions were sent to the
members prior. Ms. Kent would like to be a voting member and is already a part of the
Race Amity Day subcommittee. When Rolf comes back he will be considered as a non-
voting member. He has yet to submit his letter of interest.
Q. What promoted your interest in this Committee?
A. Ms. Kent stated that Trish Keliinui has been a good friend to her and they work side by
side with one another. They have great discussions and interesting exchanges of
thoughts and opinions of town and community. She was aware of some things she went
through growing up and she then mentioned the MIDC.
Q. What do you see the committee doing?
4
