Mash pee Inclusion and Diversity Committee
_................ ..........._..........__........._..... ....................................__M._.M....m____......_....______...._m.....w......................_ __.. _.__ . _ww_ww
16 Great Neck R.oadWorth
-Alashpee, .Alai 02649
Mr. Klein questioned if all the information in the brochure is still correct and relevant. He
inquired if there were any left. They printed 2,500 copies.
Ms. Stevenson informed members it was created by a subcommittee and printed through the
school office. It was a guide to group organizations. When she first arrived in town it was hard
for her to make connections and friends.
Madam Chair attended a bystander training program.
5. Resume child care for Town Meeting
Chair would like to go back and look into what is needed to be able to do this again.
Mr. Klein acknowledged there would be participation from the younger population if that were
an option for families.
Ms. Stevenson went on to state this Committee did child care, parking for veterans, as well as
created the brochure. It talked about a welcome wagon and who to get in touch with if you
were new to town. This touches on the belonging theme, how are we making people feel they
belong?
Mr. Klein got most involved when he realized a town of 15,000 people only had a little over
1,400 voters turn out at the most recent election. Other turn outs had 1,800—2000. Regarding
Town Meeting, the largest attended were sewer and marijuana with 500 attendees. This past
Town Meeting held under 400 people.
Ms. Stevenson reiterated that is what they need to focus on. Any group that feels like they
don't matter or don't belong, we need to think about how to work that out to make people feel
like they belong in their own community.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Proposal: We Belong Here
Ms. Stevenson is using this as a theme to develop activities. She asked Jayden, the student
representative, what happens with new students coming to the school? How are they made to
feel like they belong?
5
