-2-
motion was made by Ava, and seconded by Richard, that we spend the funds for the
sign to be made up. The estimated cost last August was $3,021.00, without installation.
Richard spoke about having a docent working at the schoolhouse on a volunteer basis.
It could possibly be a student who would like to do some research and be able to add a
special project to his/her resume. Brian Weeden suggested that Richard talk to
Roxanne Mills who is the Native Education Director. Brian Hyde suggested talking with
the History Director at Southport to see if anyone there would have an interest.
Nancy proposed that we have Walking Tours in the Historic District. Ava is thinking that
Earl Mills might like to record a tour of the District, and/or work with someone who would
enjoy doing the walking tours through the Mashpee Historic District.
Ava brought up setting a date for our Awards presentations for 2019, 2020, and possibly
add 2021. We are thinking about having the presentation outside at the gazebo, and
Rosemary thought we should combine it with a special back-to-school tour of the
Schoolhouse. Brian Weeden suggested that we notify other Historical Societies on the
Cape to let them know about our event. Richard made a motion that we have the
ceremony on Sunday, August 21, 2022. Brian Weeden seconded the motion. Motion
was voted unanimously. Richard suggested that we give the 2021 Award to the Town
Seal Committee, all seven members. It was voted unanimously, Brian Weeden
abstained. We will work on selecting an appropriate award.
New Business —Ava would like us to make up a list of other buildings that we would like
to have dendrochronology testing done on. Also, we should be thinking about any
purchases that we should make to add to our collection. Ann would like us to find out if
we could get an Archivist to come in to evaluate and update our system of record
keeping.
Rosemary suggested we buy the records pertaining to Mashpee contained in Volumes I
and II of Acts and Resolves of the Province of Massachusetts Bay. Richard said he
would go up to the State Library to get copies as nothing would be available to buy.
Motion to adjourn was proposed by Ava and seconded by Nancy at 5:40pm. Our next
meeting will be on April 21st at 4:OOpm.
Respectfully submitted,
Ann Graham, Sr. Clerk
