The
last Comprehensive Plan was done in 1992, so it is long overdue.
The Planning Board is visiting all the Town Commissions to have them update their
particular section of the plan. They are at the beginning of the process, and the
consultants have drafted the chapters. Our section would be Historic Preservation and
Cultural Resources. They would like to work with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe
before submitting the chapter to us for our comments. They would especially like for us
to include anything that we would like to have changed or implemented in the future. It
is a policy setting document to guide the community forward. When the Planning Board
makes decisions, they must be in conformance with the Comprehensive Plan. The
updated Comprehensive Plan will be reviewed and adopted by the Town at Town
Meeting, and then it will go to the Cape Cod Commission which has the governing
control.
The timeline is to have a completed draft by the end of summer 2022. There will be
many public meetings for comments and input from members of the community. They
are looking forward to presenting the updated Plan to the Town by the May 2023 Town
Meeting. It will be a living document that we will be able to update and make changes
to in the future if and when they are needed.
