mVaare $aa
'kfashyee Affordable Housing Comm_ ittee
._ ..M... ..m........_._ ..w._._.__. __ ... __16 Great Neck RoadNorth
-%Iashpee, -'MA 02649
behind it. We need more projects like Commercial Street. She does not feel confident
that her children will be able to stay in Mashpee. She doesn't believe that is just
Mashpee centered, that issue is Cape wide.
Ms. Coleman commented that it was nice to see everyone on the same page as far
as what we believe our community systems are. Zoning bylaws need to be changed.
Town Boards need to coordinate and communicate with one another as far as
reaching that goal. She was not aware of how much unused space Mashpee has. It
was great to see that everyone has an idea of what their goal is. Her goal is to have
her child be able to call this place home. The Cape has the resources but she wishes
the information could be more available to people. She was not aware of some
resources that were available to her. She noted the Town Planner is doing a good
job and his heart is in it. She plans on attending more workshops.
Ms. Baier appreciated the layout of the workshop. They went over what our assets
were so it was able to start out super positive. They discussed culture, housing,
assets and needs, then goals that meet those needs. It struck her when discussing
housing. Everyone agrees it is needed but nobody knows how to talk about it.
Education is huge. Her breakout table had a conversation about the town website
and how it could be updated or made more accessible. She feels hiring a Housing
Coordinator was at the forefront of the conversation. People don't understand the
logistics of how long it takes to go into development as well as the costs. She also
felt that the people who attend are the people who always attend. She wished there
were more people in attendance outside the normality to diversify the room.
Ms. Coleman noted it felt cramped, they would benefit from a larger space. She
would like to think about ways to recruit more people to get involved.
Ms. Pina echoed there were not many people in the room under the age of 50. So
many people are more likely to give their input on the Mashpee Message Facebook
group instead of doing it where it actually matters. You have to be on record at these
meetings or at a workshop. She will post about the workshops on the Mashpee
Message to encourage the people who are maybe being missed, like parents.
Sometimes people feel intimidated in those settings.
Ms. Baier thought it was a very approachable workshop. Breaking down into tiny
groups was helpful and the moderators did a good job.
3
