_._ _.... ashyee .fforda6le Housing Committee
16 Great Neck R.oadNorth
Mashpee, MA 02649
24 of 42 units completed; SHI Status to be clarified. Chairman is hoping to have a
conversation with the Tribe to add this to the SHI to help increase our efforts
towards the 10% goal.
Ms. Coleman will attempt to contact the Tribal Housing Committee members next
week for an update.
Chairman Isbitz noted this isn't something that can be added without consent of
the Tribe.
5. 108 Commercial Street
The Feasibility Study is on hold while Town Counsel clarifies the parcel
boundaries. The bids are valid for 90 days and after the 90 days there is a rebid.
The same firms can show interest. It's not a complicating factor, it just means more
time. Chairman is hopeful the RFP will be out by the end of the year or early 2023.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Local Comprehensive Plan: Discuss Planning Board Workshop held May 14,
2022
Ms. Pina was not surprised that everyone was in agreement about housing, whether
workforce or affordable, that it needed to be at the top of the agenda. It was
interesting working through all parts of culture, diversity, and environment.
Mashpee's different amenities, such as the Mashpee School systems and being
home to the Boys and Girls Club. This is a town that people and families want to
move to. She is hopeful for the next discussions with Mashpee Commons. The lack
of housing for the next 30 years was fast tracked by 10 years with COVID. There is a
heightened awareness that people cannot afford to live here. She hears from all
different industries, it doesn't matter if you're upper level, middle, or lower level line
staff, people cannot find housing. She was surprised to hear about employees of
WHOI, unless you're a senior scientist they cannot promise or provide housing. Ms.
Pina was excited about the enthusiasm in the room, she is hoping people will
continue to provide positive feedback. Some of these projects that get squashed
attract negative representation. She hopes people can look at these projects with
more of an open mind now. The Planning Department needs help. There was
discussion for a Housing Coordinator, she has been stating this for years. There are
community characteristics that need to be kept intact. A lot of what is here now was
not here then, Mashpee has changed, and it is going to keep changing. We talked
about funding. You have to have people in place to drive a process with money
2
