Donovan provided an update on A.R.C. Select Board has approved the partnership and <br /> authorized the Shellfish Division to move forward.An overview was given on the solar F LU PPSY <br /> being utilized for the project.This device is relatively newto aquaculture and Mashpee is <br /> excited to be one of the first around using this technology.A discussion ensued on the exact <br /> location of the FLUPPSYand how it will be anchored and monitored.Dick Cook asked aboutthe <br /> legality/logistics of present/future use of town property to access or facilitate expansion of ARC <br /> in the future.Donovan indicated that these are important concerns and ARC has agreed to work <br /> closely with the town should the partnership expand in the future. <br /> New Business: <br /> 1. Shellfish Constables Report. Donovan provided an update on the purchase and placement of <br /> seed forthe coming year.He reports 500,00+ R3 oysters placed in upwellers and the stock looks <br /> good.Donovan is hopeful to get500,000-1M R3 quahogs and appox.1.1M R8 oysters from ARC <br /> or Cape Cod Oysterin July. <br /> 2. Donovan just recently was made aware of proposal to dredge Little River and Great River. <br /> While dredgingwill improve navigational challenges,much work needs to be done evaluating <br /> shellfish stock in those areas.The Commission is equally concerned aboutthe stock that may be <br /> involved and the short notice. A lengthy discussion ensued,in particular the lack of <br /> involvement/input bythe Shellfish Division to this point. One particular benefitfrom this <br /> proposal if it were to go forward,is the long term and serious sponge issue at the entrance of <br /> Hamblin's Pond.Updateswill be provided when/if this proposal movesforward. <br />
