Mq"ry"" Nash IncCusion and Diversity Committee
_.w.._..._.m.. ..._ _.... ._....w_._._....-...______............._
16 Great Neck Road Worth
.'vlashpee, -'AIA 02649
Ms. Stevenson stated she is unsure about upcoming projects going forward, with the exception
to Race Amity Day. She knows they need some kind of operating budget to do the
programming they do. She will not address the gift cards, which was a way in which they could
pay the performers for their work. We are a volunteer Committee not budget related, and we
do the best we can. It was easier to fund Who We Are because it was paid for by grant money
and fell under the department of the school. This is all a learning experience.
Mr. Klein stated they know that Race Amity Day will be a yearly event. He is suggesting they
ask for $2,500.00 - $3,000 so they know RAD will be covered. He noted any overflow can run
into the next year.
Ms. Landry commented the funds do not carry into the next year, it gets put back into the
general funds.
Ms. Stevenson reminded Mr. Klein that the next RAD will be in 2023, and this is for the 2024
budget. We currently have $500.00 and $1,500.00 was not enough. It is not easy to get
performers to volunteer. We want to engage in other programs and activities, we don't want to
just do Race Amity Day. She we will go to MA Cultural Council again. She is assuming they
can write another grant. Who We Are is a legacy project, it doesn't mean we won't be asking
for additional funds, but we can go back and do the diversity project at the high school.
Mr. Cotton commented this is kind of like friends of the library, which is a full department, and
still volunteer. It is also similar to a nonprofit. He knows they can't host fundraisers, but events
held for the community where people donated time and have a cost associated to it, but they
did the work for free. If you were to ask for a smaller amount, you can say specifically what it
would be used for, and purpose for the event. A smaller ask might be a better starting point.
Ms. Landry thinks the jump from $500.00 to $5,000.00 is too great of an increase.
Mr. Klein suggests using $2,500.00, they know it will be used, and they can rely on donations
for the rest.
Mr. Cotton reminded the Committee that just because you have it, you have to bargain. You
may be getting $600.00-$700.00 worth of services but you pay $200.00. If you have a smaller
budget to work with its more feasible.
4
